NanoHealth Partners with Government of Telangana to Successfully Bring Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Care to the People!
NanoHealth has partnered with Government of Telangana to integrate its award-winning community based NCD management solution through a pilot program in one Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC- BRR Nagar) in Karimnagar District. The goal of the program was to complete 10,000 community based & door-to-door screenings for 5 common NCDs namely Diabetes, Hypertension, Oral Cancer, Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer.
NanoHealth trained 10 ANMs to use a simple yet effective application on tab for on-the-spot screening, referral of high risk patients and for counselling. The ANMs conducted 10,000 screenings in a period of 9 weeks, which is an incredible achievement! The support we received from BRR Nagar UPHC Medical Officer, ANMs, ASHAs, the District Medical and Health Officer has been very strong. At the state level, the Commissionerate of Health and National Urban Health Mission team of Telangana played an instrumental role in helping bring NCD care to the people.
The pilot program achieved great impact in terms of improving awareness on NCDs within the community. There was a large amount of under diagnosis i.e. people with high risk readings were not aware of any possible onset of disease. About 30% under diagnosis in Diabetes, and well over 50% under diagnosis in Hypertension, which are engine diseases for larger problems like Cardio-vascular diseases. More findings from the Karimnagar pilot program can be found in the report attached below.
The pilot program was also an incredible opportunity to understand some of the challenges, but more importantly the opportunities for working with public health systems to provide effective, scalable NCD care to the people. One of the most glaring findings is the drop out rate within the % of high risk population that actually visit the UPHC. A known challenge within NCDs is also the continuous management which includes medication adherence and lifestyle modifications that requires continual support. NanoHealth's solution supports users through the three stages of Diagnosis, Doctor Consultation and Follow up. NanoHealth is in talks with the Government of Telangana to implement the end-to-end NCD management solution.
We believe that this program is extremely timely in lieu of the growing non-communicable disease burden in the country, and a recognition by the National Health Policy of 2017 of Government of India. It has been a wonderful opportunity for NanoHealth as a start-up to be working with the government to bring cutting edge solution to the people of India!
